The Next New Media

The next new media platform might incorporate emerging holographic technologies. A combination of virtual reality and holographic projection would allow users to consume and produce media in a futuristic fashion. Homes outfitted with projectors would allow the user to experience their content in a new and unique way - in the real world. Virtual reality tech combined with eye or headwear could incorporate digital projection into a user's view without obscuring vision, allowing media to be a part of the real world. This new media platform would lead to the migration away from screens transforming media norms completely. Videography would need to change entirely as videos would need to be recorded from multiple angles while lasers scan the set.

P2P Sharing

File sharing is the transfer of data from one computer to another. P2P (Peer to Peer) file sharing is when web users transfer data to one another. Different ways of P2P file sharing are direct transfers, uploading and streaming. Direct P2P technologies such as Bluetooth and WiFi allow devices that are in close proximity to one another to connect and share files. P2P can also be accomplished through uploading of files to the web. One of the most popular ways to upload and share data is torrenting. P2P programs such as BitTorrent serve as an intermediary service connecting users. It streams data to the receiver by using the combined bandwidth of the users who have already downloaded the data and are now"seeding" the data. Torrents allow users to upload and download massive amounts of data quickly. Ever since the emergence of the web, privacy has always been an important issue. While the need to protect your devices against hackers and malware was the major concern in the earlier years of the web,  the need to protect your sensitive information has become increasingly more necessary with the rapid growth of new media over the last decade. Today, not only is your information sought after by hackers and individuals with malicious intent, but by technology and media companies as well. Companies like Google, Facebook and Apple provide services that are so integrated into our devices that they are constantly monitoring and collecting information on us. Advice - New Media to Improve the College Experience

One way to improve college experience with new media would be to create a phone application that integrate all school related media into one app. The application would allow access to information such as the academic calendar, class schedules, and other information like a school map. The app would give you access to blackboard, cunyfirst and your college email. The app would include a calander that students can use as a planner and a chat feature that would allow you to message your professors directly and them you through the app's messaging system. This app could streamline the college experience into one application providing efficiency and helping student's with time management.

New media fosters creativity in so many ways. With the spread of web 2.0 people have started to immerse themselves in new technologies. In middle school I learned how to use html to create Myspace layouts that was unique to my personality as did everyone around me. Combining html skills with photoshop we would create incredible layouts. Playing RPG games in virtual worlds like World of Warcraft or Runescape, we would design our characters, their homes and many other aspects of the game. Today, there are so many softwares whose sole purpose is help individuals create media and make the process of putting their creativity out into the world easier. Virtual Worlds Virtual reality can be interpreted and implemented in a variety of ways. Using virtual reality has many pros. Using 3D modeling we can create virtual designs of pretty much anything. From cars to homes, creating a 3d model allows us to see the finished product before starting construction. Using virtual reality, many professionals in fields such medical, military, aviation and more can practice their skills and prepare to perform their jobs.
