New media fosters creativity in so many ways. With the spread of web 2.0 people have started to immerse themselves in new technologies. In middle school I learned how to use html to create Myspace layouts that was unique to my personality as did everyone around me. Combining html skills with photoshop we would create incredible layouts. Playing RPG games in virtual worlds like World of Warcraft or Runescape, we would design our characters, their homes and many other aspects of the game. Today, there are so many softwares whose sole purpose is help individuals create media and make the process of putting their creativity out into the world easier. From Adobe suite which is a full library of softwares for photo and video editing (Photoshop & After Effects), graphic design (Illustrator) and web design (Dreamweaver) to music production softwares like Ableton Live and Logic Pro X, there are a plethora of softwares designed solely to make your ideas into reality. Computers have brought us so far that we can virtually put anything we can think of out into the world. This makes me want to create media content. I am constantly learning new softwares because not only do they help me be creative but they make it easier too.

The next new media platform might incorporate emerging holographic technologies. A combination of virtual reality and holographic projection would allow users to consume and produce media in a futuristic fashion. Homes outfitted with projectors would allow the user to experience their content in a new and unique way - in the real world. Ever since the emergence of the web, privacy has always been an important issue. While the need to protect your devices against hackers and malware was the major concern in the earlier years of the web,  the need to protect your sensitive information has become increasingly more necessary with the rapid growth of new media over the last decade. Today, not only is your information sought after by hackers and individuals with malicious intent, but by technology and media companies as well. Companies like Google, Facebook and Apple provide services that are so integrated into our devices that they are constantly monitoring and collecting information on us. The data that is collected ranges from device and application efficiency to browsing and shopping habits. The information collected on device/application efficiency and user habits is used for analysis to provide customer satisfaction through new features in future updates and can be viewed as a positive thing.
